NASA's history is a familiar story, one that typically peaks with Neil Armstrong taking his small step on the Moon in 1969. But America's space agency wasn't created in a vacuum. As the war came to its chaotic conclusion, von Braun escaped from the ruins of Nazi Germany, and was taken to America where he began developing missiles for the US Army. Meanwhile, the US Air Force was looking ahead to a time when men would fly in space, and test pilots like Neil Armstrong were flying cutting-edge, rocket-powered aircraft in the thin upper atmosphere. Breaking the Chains of Gravity tells the story of America's nascent space program, its scientific advances, its personalities and the rivalries it caused between the various arms of the US military. At this point getting a man in space became a national imperative, leading to the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, otherwise known as NASA.

Cette étude permet de faire le point sur l'utilisation de l'échelle de Rosenberg (RSES), traduite en français depuis 1990 par Vallières et Vallerand, puis ensuite par O. Chambon (1992). L'estime de soi globale est une dimension psychologique pertinente au niveau clinique et de la recherche. Parmi les instruments le plus couramment utilisé, l'échelle de Rosenberg a fait l'objet de nombreuses études qui ont démontré son haut niveau de validité et de fiabilité. Cette échelle du fait de sa brièveté d'exécution et sa facilité de compréhension est souvent utilisée dans les pays anglo-saxons. Cependant, il existe une certaine confusion quant à son interprétation. Cette échelle est construite comme une échelle de Guttman, mais elle est aussi souvent utilisée comme une échelle type Likert., de ce fait il manque une certaine cohérence dans les différentes études de l'évaluation de l'estime de soi. L'objectif de notre étude est de mettre en évidence la structure de l'échelle d'estime de soi de Rosenberg, par l'analyse factorielle exploratoire dans sa version type échelle de Guttman (version 1) et dans sa version type échelle de Likert (version 2). Cette échelle d'auto-évaluation a été présentée à un population témoin d'étudiants (1794 étudiants) dont 931 hommes et 863 femmes, une population de patientes TCA (161 patientes). Les résultats ont étés obtenus par une analyse factorielle exploratoire en composante principale et ont mis en évidence un seul facteur dans sa version 1 et 2 facteurs dans la version 2. Le calcul des coefficients de cohérence interne de l'échelle de Rosenberg dans sa version l est de 0.79 et dans sa version 2 est de 0.9. D'autres résultats ont confirmé que les patientes ayant des troubles de la conduite alimentaire ont des scores à la RSES signifïcativement plus élevés que ceux de la population témoin d'étudiantes, ce qui signifie qu'elles ont une estime d'elle-même plus faible. Par rapport aux données de la littérature, cette étude confirme la stabilité dimensionnelle de la traduction française de l'échelle de Rosenberg et la discussion de cet article porte sur l'unidimentionnalité de l'instrument. Compte tenu des résultats obtenus l'échelle de Rosenberg paraît être un instrument fiable et sa facilité de passation semble des atouts importants dans l'évaluation de l'estime de soi qui reste un composant important à évaluer à la fois au niveau de la recherche et de l'évaluation clinique en France.

Helge Toutenburg is an established statistician and currently a Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Munich (Germany) and Guest Professor at the University of Basel (Switzerland). He studied Mathematics in his early years at Berlin and specialized in Statistics. Later he completed his dissertation (Dr. rer. nat. ) in 1969 on optimal prediction procedures at the University of Berlin and completed the post-doctoral thesis in 1989 at the University of Dortmund on the topic of mean squared error superiority. He taught at the Universities of Berlin, Dortmund and Regensburg before joining the University of Munich in 1991. He has various areas of interest in which he has authored and co-authored over 130 research articles and 17 books. He has made pioneering contributions in several areas of statistics, including linear inference, linear models, regression analysis, quality engineering, Taguchi methods, analysis of variance, design of experiments, and statistics in medicine and dentistry.

Les addictions sans drogue, encore appelées addictions comportementales, ont pris une place de plus en plus importante dans le champ addictologique au cours des vingt dernières années. Elles viennent nous rappeler que les propriétés des toxiques divers consommés dans les addictions plus classiques, longtemps aveuglantes, ne sont pas l’élément central du processus addictif, qui se construit et s’entretient à travers la rencontre entre un objet (plus ou moins addictogène) et des facteurs de vulnérabilité personnelle, dans un contexte plus ou moins propice. Nous vivons dans une société qui, à travers les offres et incitations innombrables à consommer qu’elle propose dans tous les domaines, majore le risque addictif, singulièrement chez ceux dont les capacités d’auto-régulation s’avèrent, pour de multiples raisons, limitées. Conduites de jeu problématiques, excès alimentaires et sportifs, mais également addictions sexuelles et dépendances affectives et sectaires, peuvent ainsi traduire une difficulté, plus ou moins durable et dommageable, à garder le contrôle sur certains aspects de la vie, avec des conséquences parfois extrêmement graves. L’ouvrage, compte-rendu des travaux du Congrès qui s’est tenu à Nantes à l’automne 2010, envisage tout à la fois ces définitions et déterminants globaux, et les caractéristiques spécifiques de chacune de ces addictions comportementales.
